OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE
Sunday, February 21, 2016
But Samuel replied, "What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15:22).
On our opening verse above, this is the first of numerous places in the Bible where the theme “obedience is better than sacrifice” is stated. On this verse, Prophet Samuel did not mean that sacrifices and burnt offerings are not important but rather he was urging the then King of Israel Saul to look at his reasons for making the sacrifice rather than the sacrifice itself.
As a child of God, it is easy to be tempted by Satan when it comes to the issue of making sacrifices and bringing offerings. When you give you must first understand that you give to the Lord not to men but it is through a man that God must release a blessing to you. God does nothing on earth without a man. It is His primary principle to involve a man when dealing with the issues of man. In the book of (Genesis 1:28), He signed the transfer of ownership of the land where He was the transferor to man the transferee. Your money will not make you blessed but your motive behind your giving holds your blessing.
It is better to be clear in your mind and listen to the voice of God carefully than to give all rubies (Ps.40:6). You need to obey and submit to your spiritual father (the one who provides and meet your spiritual needs), love him and cover him regardless of the flaws he might have, at the end of the day he is still human. Most people find it difficult to understand the issue of submission; that is why they don’t prosper and receive any breakthrough from God in their lives. They only come to the man of God when they are in need but when their needs are met through the man of God they vanish, to God such people are not true sons in the Kingdom (Rom 8:14).
O Lord, I pray thee, God of Samuel. Teach me to obey and submit to my father (mention his name). Teach me to honour my man of God through whom you bring deliverance, breakthroughs and healing to my life. Give me the revelation of becoming the true son in the spirit to him; to love him and reverence him. My seed to his life is not a favour but a sign of acknowledging his leadership and covering in my life; my offerings and sacrifices that I give to him is the sign of my worship to you in Jesus name. Amen
