PRAY UNTIL THE HEAVENS OPEN

So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees. Then he said to his servant, “Go and look out toward the sea.” The servant went and looked, then returned to Elijah and said, “I didn’t see anything.” Seven times Elijah told him to go and look. Finally the seventh time, his servant told him, “I saw a little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea.” Then Elijah shouted, “Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you (1 Kings 18:41-44)!’”

On our opening scripture above, the underlined portion indicates the action that Elijah took in response to his faith as the scriptures records, “Faith without action is dead (James 2:17).” He stepped out of his comfort zone and climbed to the peak of the mountain and bowed down to the ground with his face between his knees. This kind of a prayer is called a prayer of agony; this is the kind of prayer that gives birth to new things. When you pray this prayer; you forget about yourself; your status and your level of education, you break up and cry to the Lord for your case to be attended to as urgently as you require it to be. You set up a specific time for this kind of prayer without food on your stomach.

This kind of prayer opens the heavens and brings forth the revelation of the things to come. On the second portion, Elijah instructed the servant to go and look towards the see for seven good times until he saw the results as he faithfully prayed (this is a kind of a persistent prayer) for the promised result of the Lord’s miraculous victory. In this kind of a prayer you don’t stop praying until you see the results. This is a kind of prayer that tests your character, pray until the heavens open.

PRAYER

O Lord, God of Elijah, teach me to pray just like Elijah, give me the same grace of praying until the heavens open up in Jesus’ name. I pray thee that as I pray, show me the revelation of the shift in the spiritual realm. My Father, please don’t allow my tears to fall into the ground without yielding the desired results. Answer me as I call you, your word says so. Thank you for granting me the grace to pray the prayer that changes an atmosphere and commands change in the spiritual realm in Jesus’ name.
