2 Kings 2:4 NKJV
Then Elijah said to him, "Elisha, stay here, please, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho." But he said, "As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!" So they came to Jericho.
There are two most important biblical history recordings about JERICHO. The first one is the most popular one; the collapse of its great walls. The second is the first battle or city that the Israelites had to fight as they entered the promised land.
In our opening scripture above , the bible indicates that Elijah did not force Elisha to follow him instead he always pleaded with him to stay behind so that he may go alone and accomplish the mandate that God has given to him but Elisha refused at all times because in his mind he was determined to go through storms in order to possess the prophetic mantle.
JERICHO had very tight long walls such that there was a barrier to access when its gates were locked but God still offered it to Joshua as it was (Joshua 6:1). From this verse we learn that a walk to Jericho was a walk of faith as there was obstacles to access the promised treasures contained therein . In Jericho you face many obstacles and barriers to your breakthrough and material prosperity. In Jericho you don't conquer by your own muscular efforts but by complying with the prophetic instruction (Josh.6:2-5).
In Jericho you will face many oppositions and high barriers to entry to your promotion but the secret to collapse the walls is not the physical battle but the spiritual warfare (worship); the adherence to the prophetic instruction as it carries your destiny; future success; honour and material prosperity (Joshua 6:27).
O Lord help me understand and recognise the voice of God as I enter into my Jericho in my life; ministry and career. Help me to obey you and to adhere to the prophetic instructions. Make my victory to be certain just like you with Joshua in Jesus' Mighty name I pray.
Joshua 5:13; Joshua 6; Matthew 20:29-34; Mark 10:46-52; Luke 18:35-43
