THE CROWN OF THORNS
Tuesday , March, 22, 2016
They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, "Hail! King of the Jews (Matthew 27:29)!"
The crown of thorns signifies mockery. In normal instances, the crown is awarded to the king upon ordination of office. It is normally made out of gold and signifies majesty and worship. By virtue the king is ordained by another king normally the outgoing or another king from another tribe or any supreme official designated for such office usually of a higher calibre or authority.
On the opening verse above, Jesus is ordained by soldiers of Rome who are not even in the commandery office. They mock at Him and even spit on Him but He never said a word to them (Vs30).Before the crown is bestowed upon the king, he must be very well dressed with garments of very high quality signifying power; wealth; success; authority and majesty. Normally the garment of the king has a very important significance to the people that he leads and is greatly honoured by his tribe.
Jesus is being clothed with a red garment which is direct opposite of authority (Vs28). The garment of mockery and blood that is expected to split from his flesh. Jesus never responded negatively into his mockery because he understood His mandate. The more He suffered was the more His mission came closer and closer into its accomplishment. Although it was painful but He knew that His real crown awaits Him from Heaven.
The crown of thorns signifies great torture and unforbearable suffering.
Amongst all the kings that were ever ordained on earth, Jesus is the only King on earth whom ever was crowned with thorns on His head and took the office with his own blood and tears.
The crown of thorns is the crown that awarded Jesus Christ the title, "King of kings and Lord of lords" because of breaking the record and accept the office of the king by giving up His life and privileges. When your enemies mock at you and put a crown of thorns in your head, have a mind that was in Christ Jesus, never lose focus. Know your journey and be clear with your targets, God will sustain you like He did with Christ and your real valuable crown will come from Him.
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for bearing my sins and my reproach in the cross. Thank you that I am now exempted from all sorts of torture and sufferings in life. Thank you that it was through your crown of thorns that I received the crown of grace in Jesus' name. Amen.
